
Diwali Dates: The date of Diwali is set by the Hindu calendar and so it varies in the Western calendar. It usually falls in October or November. Diwali is a New Year festival in the Vikrama calendar, where it falls on the night of the new moon in the month of Kartika. Business people regard it as a favorable day to start a new accounting year because of the festival's association with the goddess of wealth. Diwali is also used to celebrate a successful harvest.

Diwali 2009 in Taiwan: Like every year Indian group in Taiwan celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm. They organized some cultural program in Taipei, Taichung and Tainan. Also many foreigner and local people are attending this celebration, it’s may be their curiosity about Indian culture. They did some stage performance like singing, dancing, poem reading etc. Some non-Indian people ware performing dance in bollywood song. Also Indian people are prepares many dishes for dinner. Without fireworks this festival is incomplete. So the last activity in this program is fireworks.
